Seoul army apologises for not downing North Korea drones


SEOUL: South Korea’s army apologised on Tuesday for failing to shoot down 5 North Korean drones that crossed their shared border after dealing with vast criticism over its lack of readiness.
Monday’s incursion prompted Seoul to fireplace warning pictures and deploy fighter jets and assault helicopters to shoot down the drones, one in every of which flew near the capital.
“Yesterday, 5 enemy drones invaded South Korean airspace, and our army detected and tracked them, however we apologise for not with the ability to shoot them down,” the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) stated in a press release.
The entire drones appeared to have returned to the North regardless of an operation to hunt them down that lasted 5 hours.
The JCS acknowledged that, whereas the army can counter “assault drones that pose an actual risk”, there’s a restrict to their capability to detect and strike smaller spy drones.
