It was the second assault on the Engels base this month. Engels, within the southern Saratov area, lies greater than 600 kilometres (370 miles) from Ukraine.
“On December 26, at round 01:35 Moscow time (2235 GMT), a Ukrainian unmanned aerial car was shot down at low altitude whereas approaching the Engels army airfield within the Saratov area,” the TASS information company reported, quoting the defence ministry.
“On account of the autumn of the wreckage of the drone, three Russian technical servicemen who had been on the airfield had been fatally injured.”
On December 5, Moscow stated Ukrainian drones had prompted explosions on the Engels airfield and one other base within the Ryazan area.
Based on TASS, the defence ministry stated no planes had been broken.
Russian President Vladimir Putin launched an offensive on Ukraine on February 24.
